Mutations in this gene result in dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase deficiency, an error in pyrimidine metabolism associated with thymine uraciluria and an increased risk of toxicity in cancer patients receiving 5 fluorouracil chemotherapy. Two transcript variants encoding
