Each gold frame measures approx. 15" x 13". The maps themselves measure approx. 7. 5" x 5. 5". The maps show parts of Asia, with detailed notes and connotations. Per the label on the back of one of the frames, "In 1604 Joducus Hondius bought the plates of Gerard Mercator's Atlas. Hondius added about 40 maps to Mercator's original number and from 1606 onwards
