LifeLines Conference 2026
Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking event as LifeLines hosts our October conference online and in person, bringing together members and supporters.
We’re honoured to welcome back two remarkable speakers:

In a change to our original programme, Debra Milke has returned at very short notice to be our US guest speaker. A past LifeLines Conference speaker, this year Debra will be joining via Zoom.
She spent 22 years on death row in Arizona for a crime she didn’t commit. Unjustly accused of having murdered her 4 year old son, the lies and cover-ups of a corrupt detective led to her losing decades of her life whilst also grieving her beloved child.
Debra fought long and hard for her freedom, educating herself in the complexities of the judicial system, and in 2013, the Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals finally overturned her conviction, describing it as ‘a severe stain on the Arizona justice system’.
Today, she lives in her hometown of Phoenix, and works part-time for a law firm as she rebuilds her life. She’s a compelling public speaker on behalf of Witness to Innocence and Justice After Exoneration, raising awareness of the inhumanity and injustice of the US death penalty. Don’t miss the chance to hear Debra’s moving and inspiring story.

Clive Stafford Smith JD OBE is founder and director of the Justice League, a nonprofit training center focused on fostering the next generation of human rights advocates. He previously founded and directed the legal action charity Reprieve (established in 1999 in London). Since 1984, he has represented over 400 people facing execution in the United States and elsewhere.
He brought the first legal challenge to Guantánamo Bay, where he has secured the release of 87 detainees and continues to assist the remaining 15. In all five cases he has helped bring before the U.S. Supreme Court, the petitioner has prevailed.
He is a patron of Lifelines and Human Writes, charities that emphasize the humanity of people on death row.
